All of us are aware of the new online bathroom pass. You have to go through a whole process, asking the teacher, then signing out and waiting for them to accept the pass, all while you are being timed, then you have to remind your teacher to stop your time. Sometimes you cannot even sign out because it says “Maximum capacity of the location has been reached. Please try again when a student returns”. It is just overall a hassle, but still needed.
Students use the pass for disobedient reaons. When students take time to leave the class just because they want to rather than need to, it is just not the best in my opinion, because when a student actually has to use the bathroom, and another person is just taking their sweet old time, it is a struggle for the student who actually needs to use it. Please be mindful of others. I think that the only time it is fine to use the pass to walk around is if you are on the verge of a mental breakdown or extremely stressed. I personally have had times like that where I was going insane and needed to take a breather and calm down.
Sabas Castro, 11th grade said “I am getting used to the virtual pass but I do not like it”.
Mr Schwab, History teacher, said “I happen to really enjoy the bathroom pass, I think it’s actually a really great idea to keep track of students, holding students accountable for their actions during school day, and ensuring safety on the campus. From my perspective, I’ve seen a lot of my students that tended to leave class more frequently, start to be in class more often, and I’m able to retain the student population in the class without having them leave, and also on top of that it has taken off a lot of responsibility for students interrupting during lessons, or asking to leave the room at random intervals during the period. It’s really cut back on that so I’ve been getting through lessons much smoother, and communicating with students with their needs a lot better because of it”.
Phones, another huge topic related to the bathrooms. I understand, we all love using our phones and check them while walking in the halls, I will admit I am guilty of this too. But I usually just check it to see what notifications I have then put it away. We need to try hard to get rid of phone addictions and spend more time with our peers, off our phones. Phones connect people in so many ways, but they are not good for our eyes, sitting and staring at screens all day, we need breaks from it.
