Do you ever just want to get a dog or a cat but can not think of where to go? Go to your local animal shelter and adopt. Most animals in shelters need love and care, they are all misunderstood and deserve as much love as they can get. It may be scary with some aggressive animals there, but they only show aggression because of their past owners or experience on the street. Most shelters are kill shelters so if they do not get adopted by a certain time they will be put down, which is so sad because no animal should have to be put down just because no one wants to adopt them.

If you want a pet that is low maintenance, you may consider getting an older pet, or if you want a high energy one you may consider getting a younger more lively pet. Some animal shelters are not just dogs and cats. For example, West Valley Animal Shelter has dogs and cats as well as birds, mice, lizards, hamsters, and even rabbits. They have so many animals that need a loving home and if they do not get a home by a specific time, they will get put down. Thankfully West Valley Animal Shelter is a Low kill shelter, so they only put the animals down if there is no other choice. Please adopt or foster an animal instead of buying from breeders or pet stores. Be the reason an animal’s life is saved.

If you want to get a pet, obviously there is a lot of money involved (adoption papers, bed, toys, food, vet trips, and much more) but owning a pet is so much more worth it because it helps both you and the animal. Taking care of a little furry friend can be a wonderful thing, it helps with loneliness, as well as depression, even anxiety. If you live alone and get tired of being alone, owning a pet would be a wonderful thing, it can train you to be more responsible and also teach you that love doesn’t need words, just being in each others presence is enough.
