In 2024 around September and November, Puma Press was struck with a letters regarding image licensing from PicRights.com. To put the letter shortly, PicRights.com was searching for image license validation for six images depicted on the Puma Press website, and if no image license validation was provided Puma Press would have to take the images of concern and provide compensation for the past unauthorized usage of the image.
The News Crew became worried as we do not have enough funds to pay the large amounts of compensation, with a total of $2450.00. Of course Puma Press took action, taking down all possible misused licensed images on the website and making changes to ways stories work, causing most stories (with the exception of news stories about our campus) to not contain any images. Puma Press also had a big meeting regarding the proper use of licensed images and what kinds of licenses can be used and how to use them. Now images on this website need to be checked further to avoid conflicts like this one.
The PicRights.com letter turned out to be a scam. Although it was a scam, Puma Press still implements ways to avoid any copyright and licensing strikes and tries to become a more polished news website constantly, figuring out ways to constantly grow as a whole.
