It’s AP recruitment season and many AP teacher’s are starting to recruit new students for their AP classes. Our school offers around 13 AP classes, this might change due to the fact that AP classes require a certain amount of people willing to take them for there to be a class.
There are different subjects that AP classes encompass like Social Science, English, Science, Math, and Spanish. These classes help students get a sense of how college classes are before they finish high school. It is a good experience for students who want a challenge in their high school experience or to get ready for college at an early age.
At Northridge most sophomores are given the choice to take AP World History and/or AP Biology, but you can take AP Biology any year as long as it fits in your schedule. While Juniors and Seniors can take whatever AP class that fits into their schedule. There are certain AP classes that only Juniors can take like AP United States History and AP English Language, and there are certain classes only Seniors can take like AP Government and AP English Literature.
This gives students the incentive to take certain AP classes in certain grades due to the fact that there are AP classes for only certain grades like the Social Science and English AP classes. Every AP class has different opportunities to offer and help challenge students in different ways, and due to the fact that there are so many AP classes that are offered, any student can take AP classes as long as they are willing to work hard and put time into the AP class they take. For example if you are bad at a certain subject, there are other AP classes that are offered at Northridge.
Your GPA will also increase due to the fact that AP class gives you an extra GPA boost, due to the fact that they give you one point of a boost. For example if you get a B in the class it will be an equivalent to an A in the class.
These classes are a good way to earn college credit depending on which AP class you take and if you pass your AP exam with a 3 or higher. The AP exam uses the grading system of 1-5, 1 being the lowest, 5 being the highest.
You can also save money by passing your AP exams because most colleges will accept if you got a 3 or higher as a pass exam grade.
