As we settle into the new year, we can start to see the school spirit shine through. Our sports teams are finally back. The fall season of sports consists of girls’ volleyball and cross country. The girls’ volleyball season has begun, with their first games going well. We’re looking forward to a great season with the JV and Varsity girls.
Puma Press interviewed one of the varsity players, 12th grader Alyssa Layco, and she exclaimed that she and the team were aiming for a championship. She says they’re going to help each other succeed and they’ll work together to win.

As for Cross Country, sign-ups are still being accepted through next week. Mr. Andrade, athletic director, encourages all types of students to sign up. Cross Country is unique since it doesn’t hold tryouts. He was a coach for one year, and he stated, “I’ve seen many people start off very slow as a runner and become much better”.
Even if you hate running, which he says “everyone” does, it is fulfilling when you do it as a team because the others motivate you to do your best. It’s very social and emotional, you make lifelong friends and get into the best condition you’ll ever be in.
“I have been very happy to have three runners that qualified for state championships. I’d recommend the sport to anyone who would like to try anything new.”
“Failure to prepare is preparing to fail.” – Mr. Andrade
