Senior Alejandra Romero was one of 25 LAUSD softball students selected to tour Dodger Stadium. Mr. Bateman, varsity softball coach and Mr. Andrade, athletic director, were also invited to attend with her. Romero has played softball for three years at NAHS, playing catcher and first baseman, and has been named player of the game multiple times. She was nominated was not just because of softball but for being able to balance sports with academics well. They were invited to tour Dodger Stadium to showcase opportunities beyond being a player. The tour was given by first-baseman coaches, medical professionals, and the superintendent. The main focus of the tour was to represent that there is more than just being in the field. Romero also talks about how surprised and grateful she was for the opportunity to be selected for the tour. Alejandra also states that it was a big achievement being able to participate in such a large event and to be recognized for her talents in softball and academics. The Dodgers gave personalized gifts to each of the 25 students and arranged a meeting with the stadium superintendent. Romero also states, ¨I was just glad to be there. We did a panel, so I was able to learn a lot about what you do after college as an athlete, and I was able to take all that in.” Alejandra is a great example of how sports don’t just lead to one career but can lead to many more opportunities. Romero’s experience with the Dodgers showcases the impact of sports beyond just playing on the field. It highlights the potential for athletes to explore various career paths and make a difference both within and outside their sport.
