In early June, Principal Castro, AP Oh, and AP Frnyzan left NAHS and LAUSD placed new admins in our school. Our new principal, Mr. Roberto Lee, came to our school with two new assistant principals, Mr. Damon Goar and Dr. Jane Berman.
Principal Lee has 33 years of experience in education and has worked all over Southern California, climbing the education tower. Previously, he worked at Sun Valley Magnet School, grades 6-12, for 13 years as principal, working with Mr. Goar for a short period. However, before becoming an administrator, he had worked as an Elementry teacher and was in the Air Force. Principal Lee says he wanted to work in education because he saw a kid in an elementary school who was convinced he was “dumb” but was, in fact, a vibrant kid who won a game of Around the World with math flash cards. After that he knew teaching was for him, soon dedicating his life to education. Principal Lee said he plans to spend his last 5-8 years with us Pumas until he eventually retries.
One of our new assistant principals, Mr. Goar has been in education for the past 28 years, his previous job being at Sun Valley Magnet School as assistant principal. During his time at NAHS, Mr. Goar wants to oversee new clubs and sports as his priorities lie in helping the student body and keeping these activities open for kids. AP Goar says he loves math and was a math teacher before becoming an administrator. The reason why he loves working in education is because he enjoys working with students and it shows because of his two plus decades working in education.
Our other new Assistant Principal, Dr. Berman has 34 years of experience in education which makes her time as an educator very close to Lee and Goar. Before coming to NAHS, Dr. Berman was a math teacher and math coach for 15 years and then became an administrator in 2005. During her time being an admin, she aimed to get her doctorate as she wanted more opportunities to help students. Just like AP Goar, she shares a love of math and when asked, she wanted to introduce math to more kids, making it fun. She comes to us from Fulton College Prep where she was an assistant principal since 2017.
Another addition to the Puma Family is Ms. Jennifer Beltran who will be working in the Main Office. She is our new School Administrative Assistant (SAA) that has been with the District since 2012 but only became an SAA for two years. Previously she was Tarzana Elementry’s SAA but was transferred here with the rest of the new administration. Before becoming an SAA though, she worked at Cleveland High School as a Senior Office Tech. She replaces Mireya Guzman, who left to join Castro at Canoga Park High School.
Let’s welcome the new admins to the Puma Family with open arms and help them enjoy their time at NAHS.
